Bengaluru, Oct 4 (NationPress) The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar made an earnest request on Saturday, urging the public to actively engage in the social and educational survey, referred to as the caste census, being executed by the Backward Classes Commission. He emphasized the importance of providing essential information to secure justice for the future generations of all communities.
After inaugurating the social and educational status survey in the Greater Bengaluru area, Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar addressed the media near his residence in Sadashivanagar.
In his dual role as Bengaluru Development Minister, he stated, “The survey commenced today in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) area, and it even took place at my residence. I have submitted all the necessary information. I call upon the public to also cooperate patiently and share their details. All caste communities must take part in this survey,” he mentioned.
When queried about the necessity of simplifying some survey questions, he acknowledged, “I reviewed these questions today. They need simplification, particularly in urban areas where people exhibit less patience.”
Concerning the request for personal information in the survey, Shivakumar remarked, “The court has stated that no individual can be compelled to answer these questions. Surveyors may inquire, but it remains the choice of individuals whether to respond. These questions will not cause any issues. I have instructed the surveyors to conduct the survey with diligence in Bengaluru city.”
Addressing concerns about potential refusals to participate, he stated, “It is our responsibility to provide information. We will fulfill our obligations.”
When asked about server-related problems during the census, he reassured, “Let it be; they will resolve everything. It is their duty. Individuals will also have the opportunity to participate online, and they should provide information there as well.”
In response to BJP's assertions that sharing information in the survey might impact voter lists, Shivakumar responded, “What can we say about the elders?”
Regarding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's earlier comments about approaching the Supreme Court over persistent tax-related injustices, he stated, “These are our taxes, our rights. We are currently losing between Rs 15,000 and 20,000 crore. The Central government must find a solution.”
The Chief Minister's Office issued an official statement indicating that as of October 3, out of a target of 1.43 crore (1,43,77,978) households, by October 2, the survey has successfully completed 81.27 lakh (81,27,206) households.
A total of 3.42 crore (3,42,31,444) individuals have been included in the caste census, reflecting a progress rate of 63.03 percent, the statement further added.
