Karnataka's Deputy CM Urges Police to Resist Political Manipulation

Bengaluru, Jan 8 (NationPress) Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister and Congress President, D.K. Shivakumar, voiced his apprehensions regarding the politicization of the police force, asserting that politicians should never misuse officers.

While inaugurating police housing complexes in Pulakeshinagar, Bengaluru, Dy CM Shivakumar remarked, “In the past, I admonished the DGP in front of the Chief Minister and Home Minister because police personnel in Udupi and Vijayapura were seen wearing BJP scarves. My advice to you is this: Politicians should never exploit you for their political agendas.

“Your duty, uniform, and dignity must remain intact. Politicians come and go, but the integrity of your khaki uniform, discipline, and pride should never waver. People look to you for justice; ensure you deliver it,” he stated.

Reflecting on a memory from 1988 during the World Youth and Student Festival in Pyongyang, Dy CM Shivakumar shared, “I was present with Sitaram Yechury and Tiwari, and we witnessed a female traffic officer managing heavy traffic at a major roundabout. Out of curiosity, we inquired about her salary. She became frustrated and answered, ‘I’m not performing this duty for monetary gain. I serve my country.’”

Shivakumar further emphasized, “While everyone works to earn a living, police officers have the exceptional duty of ensuring justice for the populace. This trust is priceless. Safeguard it and continue to serve with commitment.”

“Trust is the utmost virtue in humanity. Operate in a way that honors the trust the public has placed in you,” stated Dy CM Shivakumar.

He continued, “Under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's leadership, our cabinet is among the most seasoned. We have four former Home Ministers — G. Parameshwara, K.J. George, M.B. Patil, and Ramalinga Reddy — who have paved new paths for the department. Adhere to the prudent guidance provided by Parameshwara and act accordingly.”

“Karnataka Police have garnered respect nationwide. This day marks a significant milestone for the police department under Parameshwara’s stewardship. The Chief Minister has devoted his entire day to the department. The state now boasts some of the finest housing facilities. I commend Parameshwara and assure you that our government will consistently support you,” Shivakumar expressed.

Commending the department's efforts during the New Year festivities, he encouraged the police to persist in providing effective services.

Reflecting on the evolution of policing, Shivakumar noted, “During late CM Bangarappa’s administration, I was tasked with duties related to prisons and home guards. Since then, technology has advanced tremendously, introducing tools like cybercrime units and online investigations. We must leverage these innovations to carry out our responsibilities efficiently.”
