Bengaluru, Oct 11 (NationPress) Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, firmly rejected recent media speculation regarding his potential ascension to the Chief Minister's position, emphasizing that he is 'in no hurry' and is prioritizing public service above all else.
During a media interaction at the 'Bengaluru Walk' event held at Lalbagh Botanical Garden, the veteran Congress leader made his position clear.
"I am not in a hurry to take over as Chief Minister. My objective here is to serve the public, not to engage in political games," Shivakumar asserted, underscoring his dedication to the welfare of the people.
The Congress figure warned that he would cease communication with the media if they continued to misrepresent his remarks.
"If you (the media) persist in misrepresenting my statements, I will stop cooperating. You will not be welcome at any events or press conferences," he declared.
Shivakumar also alerted that any dissemination of false information could lead him to pursue a defamation lawsuit.
"Should any untrue reports about me surface or if there are efforts to mislead the public, I will have no choice but to initiate legal action for defamation," he cautioned.
Expressing his frustration over the ongoing controversy, he noted that specific media outlets had ignited discussions about leadership transitions.
"I have never suggested that my time to become Chief Minister has arrived. Yet, certain media outlets are twisting my words and inciting controversy," Shivakumar remarked.
Addressing the rumors surrounding the Chief Ministerial position, he elaborated, "While speaking with the public, some have asked me whether I would soon become Chief Minister. However, some media have distorted my words, implying that I claimed my time is nearing. Do not misquote me like that."
The Deputy CM insisted that the media should refrain from engaging in political maneuvering and affirmed that he is fully aware of his goals.
"I have not stated this, nor is it necessary for me to do so. I trust that when the time is right, opportunities will present themselves. My focus remains on serving the citizens of the state and ensuring effective governance in Bengaluru. Unfortunately, instead of highlighting positive initiatives, certain media outlets are trying to create contention," he lamented.
When questioned about road repairs being executed during rainy weather in Bengaluru, Shivakumar explained, "During construction, we utilize the wet-mixing technique. In some urgent situations, we also apply this method to lay asphalt, even amidst rainfall."
He added, "It rained heavily throughout the night across the city. Our officials have executed the work with care and continue to do so. No accidents have been reported. Only in a few areas has there been minor obstruction to water flow."
In response to inquiries about potholes filled a week prior that reopened due to the rains, he acknowledged that such issues can arise during wet conditions but assured that they would be addressed promptly.
