Bengaluru, June 23 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing housing scam allegations, Congress MLA Belur Gopalakrishna has called for Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan to step down until the corruption charges against him are resolved.
During a press briefing on Monday, MLA Gopalakrishna addressed the serious allegations made by senior Congress MLA B.R. Patil regarding corruption in housing allotments, stating, “Historically, ministers have resigned when faced with such allegations. This situation is no different given the gravity of the accusations from a senior legislator.”
He emphasized, “An investigation should be initiated. If the findings exonerate the minister, he can then rejoin the cabinet.”
In response to Gopalakrishna's request for the Housing Minister's resignation, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah remarked in Raichur that he would seek further information on the matter. He also noted that MLA B.R. Patil had scheduled a meeting for the 25th to address issues pertaining to the Housing Department.
When asked about the situation, Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar stated that both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan would provide their perspectives on the issue.
The controversy gained traction following the emergence of an audio clip last Friday featuring Congress MLA B.R. Patil, who alleged extensive corruption within the Housing Department, asserting that revealing all he knows could undermine the very foundation of the Congress-led government.
B.R. Patil confirmed on Saturday that the audio clip was genuine and that the assertions made within it were accurate.
A formal complaint has been submitted to Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, requesting an investigation by a specialized agency and action under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, concerning the alleged housing scam involving the minister and relevant officials.
The complaint emphasized, "It is imperative for the Governor to utilize his constitutional powers and instruct the government to facilitate an investigation through an independent agency, such as the Lokayukta or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under judicial oversight."
