Gadag (Karnataka), Jan 26 (NationPress) - On Republic Day, the Congress-led government in Karnataka declared a special reward for the family of Prajwal Ritti, who uncovered a stash of gold while excavating for a new house in Lakkundi village, located in Gadag district. The family demonstrated remarkable integrity by promptly surrendering the treasure to local authorities.
The announcement was made by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil during the flag-hoisting ceremony at the district sports stadium in Gadag city on Monday.
Minister Patil lauded the Ritti family’s honesty, stating that the government chose to honor them for their commendable act.
As part of this recognition, the government will grant Prajwal Ritti’s family a plot of land, a monetary assistance of Rs 5 lakh for constructing a house, and a government job on a contract basis for Prajwal’s mother, Kasturevva Ritti.
During the event, both Prajwal and his mother were honored by the district administration.
Minister Patil presented the plot allotment certificate to the family and handed over the appointment order to Kasturevva. The government's decision was praised by local residents and officials, who viewed it as a rare and significant acknowledgment of honesty.
On January 10, while digging for their new home in Lakkundi, the family discovered ancient gold ornaments weighing 466 grams. Despite the treasure's considerable value, they opted to turn it over to the government, earning widespread admiration throughout the state.
Lakkundi, renowned for its Chalukya-era temples, ancient lakes, and archaeological sites, boasts a rich history of ancient artifact discoveries.
Experts suggest that Lakkundi served as a major commercial and cultural hub during the medieval era, where burying gold, coins, and jewelry was common practice. The gold treasure discovered by Prajwal Ritti’s family adds to the evidence of the village’s illustrious historical significance.
