Belagavi, July 9 (NationPress) Three individuals from the same family tragically consumed poison and took their own lives due to financial distress in Karnataka's Belagavi district, according to police reports on Wednesday.
The victims have been recognized as Santosh Kurudekar, a goldsmith; Suvarna Kurudekar; and Mangala Kurudekar.
Santosh's sister, Sunanda, is currently hospitalized, and her condition is reported to be critical.
This heartbreaking event transpired in the Joshimal locality under the jurisdiction of the Shahpur police station.
Authorities discovered a death note written in Marathi at the residence of the deceased.
The note indicated that the family was overwhelmed by debts from chit fund transactions.
It also pointed out that one Raju Kurudekar, also a goldsmith, had borrowed gold from the family but failed to return it, which contributed to their tragic decision.
The note further disclosed that Kurudekar had received 500 grams of gold from the victims. When the family pressed him for the return of the gold, which he had taken from others, Raju and his wife allegedly threatened them.
"They (Raju and his wife) also spread false rumors that we had fled after taking 2 to 3 kilograms of gold jewelry from others. As a result, we faced harassment from the public for money, making our lives unbearable," the note reportedly stated.
The deceased had also implored the police to recover the gold from Raju and return it to its rightful owners, along with a request for strict legal action against him.
Santosh, who was unmarried, resided with his mother and two unmarried sisters.
Initial investigations revealed that Santosh spent two hours convincing his mother and sisters to end their lives.
Although Sunanda initially hesitated to ingest poison, she ultimately followed her brother, sister, and mother after witnessing them collapse.
The police are continuing their investigation into this tragic incident.
