Bengaluru, Dec 8 (NationPress) A heartbreaking event unfolded in the Tavarekere area of Koramangala, Karnataka, where a mother and her mother ended their lives after allegedly taking the life of a 14-year-old boy. The tragic incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the SG Palya Police Station, according to police reports.

The victims have been identified as Maunish (14), his mother Sudha, aged 38, and his grandmother Muddamma, who was 68 years old.

Authorities suspect that the two women first poisoned the boy before turning to poison themselves.

Initial investigations indicate that financial pressures stemming from significant debts may have driven the mother and grandmother to make this devastating choice.

Bengaluru’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast division), Sarah Fatima, visited the scene to check for a potential suicide note or other evidence.

During a press briefing, DCP Fatima revealed that a call was made to emergency services reporting the deaths.

Upon arrival, police discovered three bodies. The exact circumstances surrounding their deaths will be clarified following post-mortem examinations.

The family originally hailed from Tamil Nadu and had visited a temple in Dharmapuri the day prior.

“The boy was a Class 7 student at Christ School. We are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the precise reasons for their deaths. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” stated DCP Fatima.

According to the police, Sudha and Muddamma had previously operated a small hotel serving biryani. After incurring financial losses, they transitioned to selling chips and milk, before eventually resorting to household tasks.

It is believed that mounting debts led them to this tragic conclusion.

Reports suggest that Sudha had separated from her spouse several years ago, and she, along with Maunish, was residing with her mother, Muddamma.

The family took poison inside their home, and neighbors who found them unconscious alerted the authorities.

Investigations are ongoing.

In a related incident on September 15, a couple in the Bengaluru Rural district allegedly strangled their two children and attempted to end their own lives due to severe financial hardship.

The couple, Shivakumar, aged 32, murdered his daughter and son, aged 11 and 7, before hanging himself. His wife Manjula, aged 30, survived after neighbors intervened but has since been arrested on murder charges.

While the children were engaged in daily chores in their family flower plantation, the couple first called their daughter inside and strangled her, followed by their son.

Police revealed that Shivakumar had suffered serious leg injuries in a prior accident, leaving the family reliant on Manjula's limited income from various odd jobs.

They had incurred additional debts for his medical treatment, and the financial strain reportedly pushed them to end their lives and take their children with them to spare them from a life of hardship.

Point of View

It is crucial to address the underlying issues of mental health and financial distress that can lead to such tragedies.
