Bengaluru, July 17 (NationPress) Karnataka Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, Sharan Prakash Patil, addressed the report submitted by the government regarding the tragic stampede that occurred on June 4, resulting in the loss of 11 lives. He acknowledged that lapses had taken place and emphasized that actions have been initiated to avert similar occurrences in the future.
While speaking to the media in Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru, on Thursday, he responded to inquiries about the report, stating, "We have taken action and that will be followed, why would you doubt?"
When questioned about whether the police were being unfairly blamed, Minister Patil remarked, "I am not here to defend. A decision has been made. During major events, the department is responsible for ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place."
"They should be cognizant of the situation and related matters. There would definitely be lapses. Many lives have been lost. We must not take this lightly," he asserted.
"To prevent such incidents from happening in the future, we must implement action," Minister Patil added.
Minister for Labour Santosh Lad mentioned that he had not thoroughly reviewed the report yet and indicated that it would be presented to the Cabinet for further discussion.
"Let me go through it and provide my reaction," he said.
It has been confirmed that the Judicial Commission report on the stampede, compiled by retired Justice Michael D Cunha, will be presented to the Cabinet.
The report reportedly highlights negligence on the part of the Karnataka Police and event organizers. Sources indicated that Home Minister G. Parameshwara may challenge the findings, attributing the entire blame to the state police.
In the meantime, the Karnataka government, in its status report submitted to the High Court regarding the June 4 stampede, stated that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) invited attendees to the IPL victory celebrations without consulting the police, as confirmed by sources on Thursday.
The High Court had recently issued an order mandating the state government to provide the status report to respondents, including the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), RCB, and the DNA event management firm, overriding the state's request for confidentiality regarding the report.
The report indicated that the RCB unilaterally invited individuals to the victory celebration event at the Chinnaswamy Stadium without necessary police consultation or permission.
