Jerusalem, June 17 (NationPress) - Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has accused Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of committing war crimes against Israeli civilians, cautioning that he could meet a similar fate to former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who was captured by US forces and executed for his crimes against humanity.

"I warn the Iranian dictator against continuing to commit war crimes and launching missiles at Israeli civilians. He [Khamenei] must remember the consequences faced by the dictator in the neighboring country who took this route against the State of Israel," Katz was quoted as saying by Israel's Ynet news.

Katz emphasized that Israel is not participating in any negotiations with Iran to end the ongoing aerial conflict, which commenced after a significant Israeli strike on Friday.

"We are not involved in any discussions, and we will not permit harm to Israeli civilians," Katz informed reporters during a visit to Herzliya, a coastal city north of Tel Aviv, where a missile from Iran had previously struck.

Katz declared that Israel's offensive will persist until Iran can no longer launch missiles at Israeli soil.

When questioned about the potential involvement of the United States in Israel's military actions, Katz stated that Washington is already aiding Israel in defense against some Iranian attacks.

"Currently, they are supporting us in countering some attacks," he said, as reported by Xinhua news agency. "The decisions made by the US President are the decisions of the United States. We will honor any decision and value any assistance provided."

The conflict escalated on Friday when Israel executed a surprise attack on Iran, aiming to dismantle Iran's nuclear program.

Iranian officials claim that the Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of hundreds, including civilians.

In Israel, both military and civilian areas have been targeted, leading to 24 fatalities according to Israeli officials.

Point of View

I emphasize the importance of ensuring national security amidst rising threats. The Israeli government must remain resolute in its defense of civilians while navigating the complexities of international relations and potential military engagements.
