New Chandigarh, April 15 (NationPress) Harshit Rana took three wickets while the spin pair of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine each grabbed two scalps, as the Kolkata Knight Riders dismissed the Punjab Kings for just 111 runs in 15.3 overs during the IPL 2025 match at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Choosing to bat first, the Punjab Kings started strong with openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya aggressively attacking Anrich Nortje and Vaibhav Arora during the powerplay. Arya spearheaded the assault on the debuting Nortje, hitting two boundaries in his initial over.
In the following over, Prabhsimran accelerated the innings with two successive fours and a six, bringing the team's score to 20 runs in that over.
However, the introduction of pace bowler Harshit Rana in the fourth over provided KKR with some relief as he dismissed Arya for 22, with Ramandeep Singh taking an excellent catch in the deep. Prior to his wicket, Arya had smashed Harshit for an impressive 82-metre six over extra cover.
Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer came in next but was out for a duck on his second ball, marking the beginning of a dismal batting collapse.
To capitalize on the situation, Rahane brought in Chakaravarthy, who successfully took out IPL debutant Josh Inglis (2), handing Punjab another setback during the powerplay.
Despite Prabhsimran's attempt to relieve the pressure with two consecutive sixes off Harshit, it was Harshit who ultimately triumphed as Prabhsimran was dismissed for 30 runs off 15 balls, including three sixes and two fours, leaving Punjab at 54/4 by the end of the powerplay.
The situation worsened for Punjab as Nehal Wadhera (10), who had a bright start, lost his wicket to Nortje in the ninth over. Chakaravarthy then dismissed Glenn Maxwell (7) in the subsequent over, claiming his second wicket of the match.
Narine, from the other end, took down impact substitute Suryansh Shedge (4) and Marco Jansen (1) in the same over, leaving Punjab struggling at 86/8 in 11 overs.
Shashank Singh, attempting to guide the team to a respectable score, was trapped lbw by Vaibhav Arora, ensuring he missed a golden opportunity. Shashank added 18 runs with a six and a four.
Ultimately, a mix-up between Arshdeep Singh and Xavier Bartlett led to Bartlett's dismissal, resulting in Punjab Kings being all out for 111 runs in 15.3 overs.
Summary: Punjab Kings 111/10 in 15.3 overs (Prabhsimran Singh 30, Priyanash Arya 22; Harshit Rana 3-25, Varun Chakaravarthy 2-21, Sunil Narine 2-14) against Kolkata Knight Riders.
