New Delhi, June 2 (NationPress) Enoch Nkwe, the Director of national teams and High Performance for South Africa, expressed that Heinrich Klaasen has maintained open communication with Cricket South Africa (CSA) over the last few months. He emphasized his full respect for the keeper-batter's decision to retire from international cricket.
On Monday, Klaasen revealed via his Instagram account that he is stepping back from representing South Africa in international cricket. His career includes four Tests, 60 ODIs, and 58 T20Is.
“Heinrich has been a remarkable match-winner for South Africa, with the ability to shift the momentum of a game within a few overs. His dedication and impact in white-ball formats have been significant, and we extend our gratitude for his exceptional service to South African cricket.”
“He has been completely transparent with Cricket South Africa throughout recent months, and we fully respect his choice to retire from international play. We wish him all the best in the upcoming chapter of his life,” Nkwe stated.
A renowned middle-order batter, Klaasen is celebrated for his exceptional six-hitting abilities and was part of the South African squad that finished as runners-up in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup. His retirement from international cricket was anticipated after he was not included in CSA’s central contracts list in April.
Klaasen had previously held a white-ball contract after his retirement from Test cricket in January 2024. As he transitions from international play, he will participate in the T20 franchise circuit, including deals with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket (MLC), Durban’s Super Giants in SA20, and Manchester Originals in The Hundred.
“Heinrich has served as a fantastic ambassador for South African cricket, both on and off the field. His performances in green and gold have delighted many South Africans, and his legacy will surely inspire future generations. We thank him for his contributions over the years and wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” concluded Pholetsi Moseki, the CEO of CSA.
