New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) Sunrisers Hyderabad's explosive batsman Heinrich Klaasen has expressed high regard for captain Ishan Kishan, describing him as an outstanding leader. He noted that the team's response to the young wicketkeeper-batter has been remarkable, highlighting Kishan's composure in decision-making and his openness to seek guidance from seasoned players within the squad.

Kishan took on the role of interim captain after regular leader Pat Cummins was sidelined due to a lumbar stress injury. Under Kishan's leadership, SRH has secured one victory and faced two defeats, currently placing them fifth in the points standings.

"Honestly, I believe he's been exceptional thus far. He actively seeks advice from others. As I mentioned, we have a wealth of experience in the dressing room, and he relies on that as well. His decision-making, including how he manages bowlers and the respect he commands from the team, is truly impressive so far.

"We are fortunate to be in his capable hands, and he's not an arrogant person at all, which makes it much easier. Playing under him is quite enjoyable. He brings humor to the atmosphere, making it less tense, as I think this environment can be quite challenging.

"He's had commendable achievements in domestic cricket too, including leading Jharkhand to victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. So, he possesses significant experience in that regard. I genuinely enjoy his captaincy, and he has been fantastic to date," Klaasen mentioned in response to a question from IANS in the JioStar Press Room ahead of the IPL 2026 Rivalry Week.

Despite SRH's two losses this season, Klaasen expressed contentment with his form—scoring 145 runs in three matches, including a pair of half-centuries—especially considering his limited playing time after retiring from international cricket to focus solely on franchise T20 leagues.

"Regrettably, we've lost a couple of games. However, from a personal standpoint, it's been a strong start, particularly since one of my main concerns is not being able to play as much cricket as I used to. I'm also keen to see if I can maintain the standard I set for myself. So, I'm off to a good start, and I hope to keep this momentum going," he shared.

Following their match against Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh, the 2016 IPL champions SRH will face three consecutive games at their home ground against Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Capitals.

The encounter with CSK, the five-time champions who have yet to score points, is particularly significant, and Klaasen recognized the added pressure surrounding this match.

"It's always exciting to compete against them, and knowing that our owners hail from Chennai, they stress the need for us to win, which adds pressure to the game. Nevertheless, it's still an exciting challenge.

"In the IPL, every opponent demands your best performance. We hope to build some momentum heading into our next match and face Chennai at home.

"The pitch should be more favorable, and if we can secure a victory against them before heading to their home ground, I believe we will be well-positioned to take them down this season," he elaborated.

Klaasen also addressed the tactical challenge posed by rival spinners who have clearly analyzed his game. "The boundaries aren't the largest, and we're accustomed to more expansive fields. However, the pitches are excellent, making it a great place to return to.

"Nonetheless, it's a significant challenge. I recognize they are targeting me, and I am aware that I must prepare thoroughly against them and discover new ways to score," he stated.

When asked about the most challenging spinner he has faced in his IPL career, Klaasen quickly named veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. "It's an obvious choice—Yuzi Chahal. We've had some intense battles over the years, particularly throughout my career.

"He is a top-quality bowler, very astute in his approach. I believe we are nearly even in our encounters. Moreover, being friends makes competing against him even more enjoyable," he concluded.

The hard-hitting athlete emphasized that the IPL represents the pinnacle of franchise T20 cricket. "It is undoubtedly the most demanding franchise cricket competition worldwide. At times, it feels even tougher than international cricket, depending on the opponents. The caliber of cricket, along with the conditions, significantly impacts the experience.

"Every year, we witness new Indian talents emerging that we might not have heard of, continuously raising the bar. The depth of talent here sets an exceptionally high standard.

"By far, this is the best competition globally. While a few tournaments aspire to reach this level, excelling in this league requires you to be at your best every match," he concluded.
