The two-day gathering, organized by the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), aims to promote collaboration, technology sharing, and sustainable practices within the seaweed industry.
High-ranking officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and various Central government departments are anticipated to participate, underscoring the increasing policy emphasis on seaweed as a burgeoning sector with vast commercial and ecological prospects.
In-depth technical sessions and panel discussions will address vital topics such as policy frameworks, financing strategies, value-chain optimization, commercial farming, innovations, bioprospecting, nutraceuticals, product development, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability.
The summit will gather delegates from nations including the US, Russia, Australia, France, Scotland, Ireland, Maldives, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania, creating a global forum for knowledge exchange and investment opportunities.
Besides policy and science, the Expo will function as a significant B2B networking platform, linking industrial stakeholders, investors, and entrepreneurs to discuss partnerships and business prospects throughout the seaweed value chain.
Co-organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the CMFRI, and the CSIR-Central Salt Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI), the event will highlight industrial innovations and feature interactive exhibitions.
Participants will also have the opportunity to sample seaweed-based dishes and a variety of products, including health supplements, functional foods, cosmetics, and lifestyle items.
"This is a chance not only to enhance India’s seaweed sector but also to emphasize its role in food security, sustainable livelihoods, and green development," stated an expert.
With global experts, investors, and policymakers gathering in Kochi, the Expo & Summit is poised to lay out a clear blueprint for India’s ascent as a notable contender in the multi-billion-dollar global seaweed economy.
