On his X handle, Gandhi remarked, "My thoughts are with the residents of Kolkata and other regions of West Bengal as they face the calamity brought on by relentless rain and flooding. I extend my deepest condolences to the families who are grieving their losses."
He also urged Congress members in Bengal to provide assistance to those affected. "I encourage Congress workers to offer every possible help, and I call upon both the State and Central Governments to act promptly to restore normalcy," he stated.
In a similar vein, MA Baby, the general secretary of CPI(M), expressed his profound sorrow over the electrocution fatalities amidst the torrential rains and floods in Kolkata.

On Tuesday, a month's worth of rain fell within just five hours, coinciding with a high tide in the Hooghly River, leading to extensive waterlogging throughout the city. Approximately 10 individuals were electrocuted in West Bengal, including eight in Kolkata. Train and metro services faced significant disruptions, and traffic in Kolkata ground to a halt as nearly every road was submerged.
Fortunately, the situation showed signs of improvement by Wednesday morning.
The Meteorological Office reported 252 mm of rainfall in five hours, with 185 mm occurring between 2:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.
According to data from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), the area of Garia experienced the highest rainfall at 332 mm, followed by Jodhpur Park at 285 mm, Ballygunge at 264 mm, Ultadanga at 207 mm, and Maniktala at 169 mm.
