Kolkata, March 17 (NationPress) The newly appointed Police Commissioner of Kolkata, Ajay Kumar Nand, announced on Tuesday that there is no existing conflict between the West Bengal Police and the personnel from Central forces following the recent Assembly election announcement in the state.

He further explained that the Central forces will offer indirect support during the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.

This declaration was made by Commissioner Nand just a day after he took office.

"Central forces are deployed in phases during elections. They provide indirect support. We, too, must obtain the necessary approvals. It is important to have clear guidelines concerning the deployment of the Central Armed Police Force; this will prevent any potential conflict," he stated.

Commissioner Nand also rejected claims of insufficient coordination with the Central forces during the forthcoming state elections, asserting: "A review of the established protocols indicates that communication is effective. There are assigned nodal officers and specific timelines in place for coordination."

He assured that the upcoming elections in West Bengal would be conducted in a free and fair manner.

The Commissioner emphasized that ensuring the safety and security of the city's inhabitants during the elections remains the primary focus for both him and the Kolkata Police.

Since the announcement of the election schedule, various complaints have arisen, including reports of political posters being vandalized.

Commissioner Nand stated that these incidents will be thoroughly investigated.

"I will ensure that I do not fail in my leadership role," he affirmed.

Moreover, he highlighted that the Kolkata Police are fully equipped to manage situations similar to the clash that occurred outside the residence of West Bengal Minister Shashi Panja in Girish Park on March 15, when members of the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party clashed ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Kolkata.

Following this incident, there were accusations that Central forces had not been dispatched promptly.

Commissioner Nand refuted these claims, stating that no Central forces were present in the vicinity at that time.

He also pointed out that the current presence of Central forces in the state is limited.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Commissioner remarked, "The Kolkata Police are more than capable of managing such situations. At that moment, there were no Central forces nearby. The entire incident transpired very quickly. However, this should not suggest that we are incapable of handling such occurrences."

"Currently, there is no significant presence of Central forces in the state. We manage law and order ourselves and oversee public meetings and processions," he concluded.

Point of View

I find the harmonious relationship between the West Bengal Police and Central forces crucial for maintaining order during elections. Commissioner Nand's commitment to transparency and security reflects a proactive approach to governance, ensuring a fair electoral process.
