Kolkata, Jan 17 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police have submitted a charge sheet concerning the homicide of Ashok Paswan, a young man originating from an area within the jurisdiction of Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, as reported by officials on Saturday.

This young individual was cruelly murdered on the streets of Chetla in south Kolkata last October, with his death allegedly caused by a crowbar thrust into his throat. The police have outlined the motive for Ashok's murder in the charge sheet.

Ashok's life was taken near the number 17 bus stand in Chetla, South Kolkata, in October 2022. The incident arose from a dispute during a drinking gathering at the bus stand, where it is alleged one of his companions unexpectedly drove a crowbar into Ashok's throat.

Despite Ashok's attempt to flee for about 100 meters down the road, he ultimately collapsed on the pavement. He was rushed to SSKM Hospital in a critical state, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.

In connection with this murder, authorities detained two young men, Surajit Haldar and Tapas Pal, who have been identified as the principal suspects in the 85-page charge sheet. This document, submitted to the Alipore court, includes testimony from 30 witnesses.

Investigators noted that the conflict originated from a quarrel involving the wife of one of the accused, which intensified during the drinking session and culminated in the tragic attack.

Subsequent to this incident, the officer in charge of the Chetla Police Station was reassigned, with Amitabh Sarkhel appointed as the new OC. This change was prompted by the occurrence in an upscale area and especially within the vicinity of the Kolkata Mayor, leading to concerns regarding public safety.

Following the event, residents voiced strong discontent, claiming that liquor gatherings had become a common occurrence in the region, particularly on public streets, jeopardizing law and order.
