Kolkata, Nov 24 (NationPress) The investigation into the homicide of a young man in a hotel room located in the Kasba area of south Kolkata has uncovered that a financial disagreement between the involved parties, who connected through a dating application, led to the tragic incident.
According to police reports, a 20-year-old named Dhruba Saha and another 20-year-old identified as Komal Saha checked into the hotel alongside Adarsh Losalka, aged 33, on Friday night.
On Saturday afternoon, the lifeless body of Losalka was discovered in a compromising state, with his legs bound. Authorities noted a severe head injury, determining his cause of death to be asphyxiation.
By Sunday evening, both Dhruba and Komal, who presented herself as a content writer for a dating app, were arrested on charges of murdering Losalka.
The investigation revealed that Komal worked as an escort and Dhruba acted as her agent.
A senior member of the Kolkata Police disclosed that Komal had initiated contact with Losalka via the dating app and arranged the hotel meeting after an extended conversation.
Officials indicated that Komal hails from Barrackpore in the North 24 Parganas district, while Dhruba is from the Nadia district. Both shared accommodation in East Sinthee, located on the northern outskirts of Kolkata. The pair eventually confessed to the crime after turning themselves in.
During their interrogation, they recounted that a dispute erupted between Komal and Losalka regarding financial matters after she entered his room for the night. Dhruba, who was staying in an adjacent room, was contacted during the argument. The altercation escalated, resulting in Losalka falling and sustaining a head injury. Consequently, the two restrained him, strangled him to death, and absconded with his phone and wallet.
It was later disclosed that Losalka had reserved two rooms at the hotel online.
The police are currently pursuing various angles, including the potential for torture and sexual deviance. An officer noted that the search for Losalka's phone and wallet is ongoing.
In the aftermath, the Kolkata Police have mandated surprise inspections of hotels throughout the city, along with verifying guest identification.
Police officers will ensure that the individuals match their identification photos.
Sources from Lalbazar (the city police headquarters) reported a concerning trend of murders occurring in hotel rooms along Park Street and Kasba. This prompted Police Commissioner Manoj Verma to convene an urgent meeting with officials on Sunday.
The police are formulating essential guidelines for hotels in the area. Additionally, the Commissioner has issued critical directives regarding hotel security. Officers in charge and intelligence personnel from each police station, as well as city police headquarters, are instructed to conduct surprise checks at every hotel.
Verification of identification documents, such as Aadhaar cards or passports for foreign visitors, is now a requirement. Officers will compare the appearance of guests with their identification photos to ascertain their origins, intended destinations, and professions.
They will also cross-check this information against the hotel registrar to ensure accuracy.
According to sources, this decision was made in light of recent violent incidents in Delhi and various hotel-related murders.
