Kolkata, Sep 15 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police have implemented enhanced measures to maintain law and order throughout the city in anticipation of Durga Puja. Police Commissioner Manoj Verma recently detailed a series of guidelines during the monthly crime meeting, as reported by a senior police official on Monday.
The official noted that the city experiences a surge in visitors from various districts and states during the Durga Puja festivities. This influx often leads to increased activity from crime syndicates. As a precaution, the officer-in-charge of each police station under Kolkata Police has been directed to enhance vigilance and inspect security measures in their areas.
"It has been specifically directed that the OCs of each police station will verify the installation and functionality of CCTV cameras at key locations in their jurisdictions. The Police Commissioner has emphasized that all such reports must be forwarded to Lalbazar (the city police headquarters) without delay," the police official stated.
Moreover, the Kolkata Police's Intelligence Department, including the 'Watch Section', Anti-rowdy Section, and the Women's Battalion of the RAF, is expected to remain on high alert.
"The Police Commissioner has also mandated an increase in night and early morning patrols at significant intersections and crowded areas of the city," added the police official.
As in previous years, there is a notable rise in incidents such as snatching, robberies, and thefts leading up to Durga Puja. According to police sources, there has been a surge in attacks and snatchings targeting morning walkers in several neighborhoods.
The official clarified that during the monthly meeting, it was underscored that any negligence in preventing crimes during the Puja will not be accepted. Furthermore, every police station has been instructed to respond promptly to public complaints. There will be increased police presence, mobile van patrols, and covert surveillance by detectives.
