Moscow, April 25 (NationPress) Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has declared that the possible stationing of NATO troops in Ukraine is intolerable.
This action would present a serious threat to both European and global security, Peskov asserted on Thursday.
"Regarding the talks about deploying military forces within Ukraine's borders, this is entirely unacceptable for us. It poses a serious risk to the security of Europe and the world at large," he emphasized.
Previously, Sergey Shoigu, Secretary of Russia's Security Council, cautioned in an interview with TASS that sending in "peacekeepers" to Russia's traditional lands could trigger World War III, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Shoigu highlighted that a "coalition of the willing" is plotting to send a military presence to Ukraine under the pretext of peacekeeping.
Peskov's remarks followed discussions held by Ukrainian officials with delegations from the United States, Britain, France, and Germany in London on Wednesday.
In his TASS interview, Shoigu warned that deploying peacekeepers to "historically Russian territories" could result in a direct conflict between Russia and NATO, leading to a potential World War III.
"Sensible leaders in Europe recognize that pursuing such a scenario could provoke a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia, and ultimately lead to World War III," he stated.
Moreover, Shoigu alleged that Western nations are allegedly gearing up for a conflict against Russia.
"An open campaign is in progress across Europe to prepare for military action against Russia. At various levels, the potential timelines for this confrontation are being discussed—ranging from three to five years. By 2030, European leaders and military officials aim to be prepared for combat against us," he mentioned in his TASS interview.
Earlier in March, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer revealed plans to establish a "coalition of the willing" to reinforce support for Ukraine.
During a summit in Paris later that month, French President Emmanuel Macron proposed the idea of deploying "reassurance forces" from several willing European Union member nations to strategic sites in Ukraine should a peace agreement be finalized with Russia.
