Bengaluru, Jan 19 (NationPress) In response to the alleged videos depicting inappropriate conduct with a woman in his office while dressed in uniform, DGP K. Ramachandra Rao asserted that the videos circulating on social media are 'manipulated'.

During a press briefing in Bengaluru on Monday, DGP Rao stated, “These videos are indeed manipulated. No such incident occurred. I will consult with my legal counsel and decide on the next steps.”

Following the incident, DGP Rao visited Home Minister G. Parameshwara's office to clarify the issue. However, reports indicated that Parameshwara communicated via a staff member that a meeting would not be possible, prompting DGP Rao to leave the premises.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has requested the Home Department to prepare a report on this situation. This comes after the state government previously faced controversy concerning allegations against DGP Rao linked to a gold smuggling case.

It is worth noting that the Karnataka Police Department faced significant embarrassment when purported videos emerged, showing alleged inappropriate behaviour by jailed actress Ranya Rao's stepfather, DGP K. Ramachandra Rao, with a woman in his office while in uniform, which surfaced online on Monday.

The videos raised serious concerns as they quickly gained traction on social media.

In one video, DGP Rao is seen kissing the woman while seated in his official uniform at his office. Another video shows him in a suit engaging in similar behaviour within the confines of his office, with the Indian flag and the emblem of the Police Department visible in the background. The woman appeared to be cooperating with him.

Sources indicated that the videos were recorded over a year ago, prior to Ranya Rao's arrest related to the gold smuggling case.

The actions were allegedly captured by the CCTV cameras installed in the office.

Currently, Ramachandra Rao holds the position of Director General of Police in the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE).

There have been ongoing speculations regarding the potential release of videos involving a senior IPS officer.

However, the reason behind the recent release of these videos remains unclear.

Those who disseminated the videos reportedly blurred the woman’s face, added background music, and included captions before sharing them on social media.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed his discontent and anger over the incident.

Former Home Minister Araga Jnanendra criticized DGP Rao, stating he has brought shame to the entire Police Department.

“It is shocking that a senior IPS officer would engage in such behaviour. These officials should serve as role models and must be held accountable,” said the former minister.

Previously, in March 2025, the Karnataka government placed Ramachandra Rao on mandatory leave due to the gold smuggling allegations, although he was recently reinstated. He is believed to have collaborated with Ranya Rao in the smuggling operation. A probe has been ordered against Rao, and a report has been requested.

Ranya Rao was arrested for her involvement in gold smuggling and for allegedly using her stepfather Rao's name to bypass security checks by leveraging the protocol meant for officials.

Further details are awaited, and neither the Police Department nor Ramachandra Rao has issued a statement regarding this matter.
