What Actions Will Be Taken in the DGP Video Controversy?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 20 (NationPress) Karnataka's Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, expressed his discontent regarding the scandalous videos allegedly involving DGP K. Ramachandra Rao. He emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable.
“We cannot permit such occurrences within our department,” he insisted.
In a media briefing in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Parameshwara addressed queries regarding this matter, stating, “I am also disheartened by this incident as it pertains to my department. The situation appears inappropriate. Even our Chief Minister shares this dismay. Such incidents cannot be condoned in any department. Thus, we have taken swift measures.”
“We learned about the situation through our officers. After consulting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was on a tour, we decided to act promptly. We must ensure that nothing like this takes place within the police department,” he remarked.
“We made it clear that no matter how senior or powerful an individual is, necessary actions must be enforced. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered his immediate suspension while an inquiry is underway. DGP Ramachandra Rao claims these allegations are false. We will investigate their validity. However, when something appears evidently wrong, it does not reflect well on anyone,” stated Parameshwara.
“In light of this, we have suspended him. The inquiry will commence soon. Post-inquiry, we will assess all aspects of the matter and take appropriate action,” he added.
When asked about DGP Ramachandra Rao's visit to his office on Monday, Parameshwara noted, “I was informed he came to see me. However, I was unable to meet him, nor would I have done so in this circumstance. We must respond correctly, and thus I chose not to engage.”
In response to BJP’s demand for DGP Ramachandra Rao’s arrest, he stated, “Future actions will depend on the inquiry results. He might even face dismissal from service. We have acted swiftly without showing leniency, despite his seniority as an IPS officer. Further actions will follow the inquiry report.”
Regarding the victim’s details, Parameshwara admitted ignorance. “Currently, we only have preliminary information. No further specifics are available at this moment,” he mentioned.
In the wake of the emergence of alleged explicit videos purportedly featuring DGP K. Ramachandra Rao in compromising situations with a woman in his office, the state government has suspended him pending an inquiry. The senior IPS officer is also barred from leaving headquarters without state government consent.
The suspension order stated that Dr. K. Ramachandra Rao, DGP of the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE), acted in a manner deemed obscene, unbecoming of a government official, causing embarrassment to the government.
This incident has caused significant embarrassment to the Karnataka Police Department, after videos surfaced showing DGP K. Ramachandra Rao engaging in inappropriate behavior with a woman in his office, which went viral.
In one video, he is seen kissing the woman while in uniform at his office. In another segment, he appears in a suit, engaging in similar conduct before the Indian flag and the Police Department’s emblem displayed in his chamber. The woman was seen participating in these actions.
In response to these videos, DGP K. Ramachandra Rao claimed that the clips circulating on social media are “manipulated.”
