Bengaluru, June 12 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) R. Ashoka has addressed a letter to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday concerning the stampede in Bengaluru that resulted in 11 fatalities on June 4, emphasizing that their involvement in this matter is essential.
“I demand that the ongoing investigation be monitored to guarantee transparency, fairness, and justice for the victims and their families,” he insisted.
Ashoka expressed, “I have urgently reached out to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) regarding the stampede in Bengaluru, which was a preventable disaster. The letter requests an extensive investigation into the evident shortcomings in crowd management, security, and necessary amenities, as well as the establishment of accountability.”
“It is our responsibility to guarantee justice for the victims and to avert the recurrence of such incidents. Given the insensitive and irresponsible approach of the state government in this situation, NHRC’s intervention is critical,” he asserted.
The two-page letter from Ashoka mentions, “The victims were regular individuals, both young and old, who had come together in the spirit of celebration. Their fundamental right to life and safety was recklessly violated.”
Ashoka further accused in his letter that the alleged misinformation propagated by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise, the event management company DNA, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) directly contributed to the disorder.
“I implore the NHRC to take suo motu cognizance of this tragic event. Commence a thorough investigation into the roles and responsibilities of all officials, agencies, and private entities involved in organizing the event. Ensure accountability and recommend necessary disciplinary or legal measures against those found negligent.
“Formulate guidelines and protocols to avert similar occurrences during large-scale events, concentrating on crowd control, safety norms, and emergency preparedness,” Ashoka stated.
“This preventable tragedy has caused significant grief and anger among the populace of Karnataka. I firmly believe that the NHRC's involvement is crucial not only for delivering justice to the affected families but also to ensure that such incidents are never repeated,” Ashoka added.
Despite the filing of FIRs and the announcement of an inquiry commission, the evident lack of foresight and preparation by government bodies raises serious concerns, he argued.
“This is not simply an unfortunate accident; it appears, based on eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations, to be the direct outcome of gross negligence, mismanagement, and a blatant disregard for public safety by the government and the relevant authorities,” he concluded.
