Mumbai, April 8 (NationPress) Comedian Kunal Kamra has approached the Bombay High Court seeking to annul the FIR filed against him by the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde). The comedian's petition is currently under consideration in the esteemed court.

The court has now postponed the proceedings until April 16 at 2:30 pm, granting the prosecution time to acquire instructions from their officers.

Kamra's legal representative argued before the judge that there is no grave charge, such as murder, lodged against his client. The FIR stems from his stand-up comedy performance. He emphasized that comedy shows are entirely scripted, and his client is receiving death threats. He has asked the court to permit the comedian to attend via video conferencing.

Kamra's attorney stated, “My client is facing death threats; he has approached the police three times to record his statements through video conference, yet the police are insisting on his physical presence. We request that Kamra's virtual appearance be allowed.”

Kunal Kamra has been embroiled in controversy due to his alleged comments regarding the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde.

On Monday, Kamra penned an open letter to the ticketing service, BookMyShow. He expressed on his X account that he was removed from the platform and that BMS has barred him from reaching his audience, whom he has entertained for nearly a decade.

In response, BMS clarified that the decision to list or delist a show lies entirely with the organizer, and they have no influence over this.

The statement read, “BookMyShow serves as a platform for ticket sales and conducts its business with impartiality while adhering to the relevant laws of India. There have been misrepresentations regarding our role in the public sphere. Our function is to facilitate ticket sales for live events, and it is the choice of the organizer or venue to list or delist shows.”
