Mumbai, April 8 (NationPress) Comedian Kunal Kamra has approached the Bombay High Court seeking to annul the FIR filed against him by the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde). The comedian’s plea is currently under consideration in the esteemed court.

The court has postponed the hearing to April 16 at 2:30 pm, allowing the prosecution time to gather instructions from relevant officers.

Kunal Kamra's legal representative highlighted to the judge that no serious crime such as murder has been charged against his client. The FIR stems from a stand-up comedy performance. He stated that comedy shows are fully scripted, and his client is currently receiving death threats. He has asked the court for permission to appear via video conferencing.

Kamra’s attorney expressed, “My client is under threat to his life; he has approached the police thrice for a video conference statement, yet they are insisting on his physical presence. We urge the court to permit Kamra to appear virtually.”

Kunal Kamra has found himself in the spotlight due to contentious remarks aimed at the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde.

On Monday, Kamra penned an open letter to the ticketing service, BookMyShow. He took to X, alleging in his letter that he was removed from the platform, effectively barring him from reaching audiences he has entertained for nearly a decade.

In response, BMS stated that the decision to list or delist a show rests solely with the organizer, and they do not influence these choices.

The statement read, “BookMyShow is a platform that facilitates ticket sales and operates impartially while adhering to the laws of India. Our role has been misrepresented publicly. We provide a platform for ticket sales for live performances, and it is up to the organizer or venue to decide on listing or delisting their events.”
