Mumbai, March 24 (NationPress) Shiv Sena MLA Mangesh Kudalkar filed a complaint on Monday at the Kurla Nehrunagar police station against comedian Kunal Kamra after he labeled Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde a traitor. Kudalkar has asked the police to initiate proceedings against Kamra, who is currently in Puducherry, and expressed his willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation but stated he will not issue an apology.
Previously, a Zero FIR was filed against Kamra at the MIDC police station for making a supposedly offensive joke during a comedy show. The Khar police also took action against Yuva Sena general secretary Rahool Kanal under multiple sections of the BNS and the Maharashtra Police Act, detaining 20 Sena activists in the process.
Dixit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Zone 9, confirmed that two cases have been registered at the Khar police station: one against Kamra for his derogatory comments and another against those who vandalized the Unicontinental hotel, where Kamra's comedy show was held. The investigation is currently ongoing.
The Shiv Sena has demanded an unconditional apology from Kamra, while the opposition criticized the state government for swiftly acting against Kamra while ignoring insults directed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Shiv Sena claims Kamra is a habitual offender exploiting the freedom of speech and condemned his “tasteless and defamatory” comments made during his recent performance at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai.
His intentional mockery of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, coupled with his attempts to distort the political landscape for his own agenda, is viewed as a calculated assault on leadership. He has once again misused his fundamental right to free speech, cloaking his political propaganda in the guise of comedy.
In a press release, the Shiv Sena emphasized that they will not tolerate any efforts to insult or discredit the leadership working diligently for the people of Maharashtra.
“We demand that Kunal Kamra apologize unconditionally for his comments against Eknath Shinde and stop using comedy as a tool to propagate hatred and misinformation,” the Shiv Sena stated in their release. Kamra has a notorious history of controversial and offensive behavior, indicating that this is not a singular incident. He has consistently disrespected institutions, individuals, and religious sentiments under the guise of satire.
