Thane, March 27 (NationPress) A non-cognizable offence has been filed against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra following a complaint at the Wagle Police Station in Thane, a stronghold of Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

As per police insiders, the complaint alleges that Kamra performed a satirical song targeting Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The complaint was lodged by Yuva Sena member Rupesh Mishra.

On Sunday evening, activists from Shiv Sena vandalized the Mumbai studio where Kamra's show was filmed. Consequently, the police registered a non-cognizable offence. They have also charged Kamra under section 356(2) (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The Mumbai Police had issued two summons to Kamra, who has yet to appear to provide his statement.

On Monday, Shiv Sena legislator Mangesh Kudalkar lodged a complaint at the Kurla Nehrunagar Police Station against Kamra for referring to Deputy Chief Minister Shinde as a traitor.

Kudalkar has requested the police to take action against Kamra, who has stated that he will fully cooperate with the investigation but refuses to apologize.

On the same day, the MIDC Police Station filed a Zero FIR against Kamra for allegedly making an objectionable joke during a stand-up performance. The Khar Police have booked Yuva Sena general secretary Rahool Kanal under various sections of the BNS and Maharashtra Police Act, also detaining 20 Sena activists.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 9, Dixit Gedam, confirmed that two offences have been recorded at the Khar Police Station. One is directed at Kamra for derogatory remarks, while the other targets those who vandalized the Unicontinental Hotel where Kamra's comedy shoot occurred. He added that an investigation is ongoing.

Shiv Sena has condemned Kamra’s “distasteful and defamatory” comments made during his recent performance at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai.

“His intentional attempt to mock Deputy Chief Minister Shinde and distort the political landscape of our state into a tool for his agenda is a calculated assault on leadership. He has misused the fundamental right to free speech, disguising his actions as comedy to defame individuals and disseminate politically charged misinformation,” stated Shiv Sena.

The Shiv Sena asserted that it will not tolerate any attempts to insult or undermine the leadership dedicated to serving the people of Maharashtra.

“We demand that Kunal Kamra issue an unconditional apology for his comments against Eknath Shinde and cease using comedy as a weapon to propagate hate and misinformation,” it concluded.
