Mandya, Sep 11 (NationPress) The town of Maddur in Mandya district, Karnataka, which encountered unrest for three days after the Ganesh Visarjan violence, has finally returned to a state of normalcy as of Thursday, with the authorities lifting prohibitory orders.
In a significant development, an FIR has been filed against BJP MLC C.T. Ravi for delivering a provocative speech during the Ganesh Visarjan celebrations on Wednesday.
The police took suo motu action against the BJP MLC at the Maddur police station. Sub-Inspector Manjunath has officially registered the complaint, citing allegations of inciting hatred and animosity through inflammatory speeches that threaten communal harmony.
As part of the investigation, the police have identified 29 individuals involved in stone pelting and have made arrests of 22 so far.
Controversy erupted when C.T. Ravi claimed, "We didn't spare Tipu Sultan and his father Hyder Ali, and you are nothing. The blood of Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda (freedom fighters) flows in us. If you challenge us, we will break you. We will ensure your heads are off your bodies."
He further inflamed the situation with a statement: "If you love Pakistan, you can take your luggage and leave. We have the capacity to bury those who pelt stones. Islam took birth 1,600 years ago, but Hinduism has existed for tens of thousands of years. Four- and six-year-old kids are spitting on the Ganesh procession. Imagine how the seeds of poison are being sown in their minds."
C.T. Ravi remarked, "Even when they are just 5 percent, they are already spreading their influence. If they reach 50 percent, how will our children and grandchildren be able to live? They will break society apart."
It is noteworthy that thousands gathered for the Ganesh Visarjan event in Maddur on Wednesday. Hindu organizations organized the immersion of 28 Ganesh idols simultaneously following a prior stone-pelting incident during the procession on Sunday night. To maintain peace, over 2,000 policemen were deployed throughout Maddur.
Those accused of stone pelting originated from a mosque located along the procession route, which remained unchanged on Wednesday. Authorities ensured robust security measures around the mosque, assigning 500 policemen in the area and deploying platoons from the Karnataka State Reserve Police and Rapid Action Force. Hundreds of officers accompanied the Ganesh Visarjan procession to prevent any further disturbances.
