Bengaluru, Sep 8 (NationPress) Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara confirmed on Monday that the situation in Maddur, located in Mandya district, is currently stable despite the enforcement of prohibitory orders lasting until Tuesday morning due to the violence during Ganesh Visarjan.
During a media briefing in Bengaluru, Minister Parameshwara stated: "Those responsible for the disturbances have been apprehended, and the situation is now manageable. The Ganesh immersion ceremony has resumed subsequently. There were minor incidents reported throughout the state, such as a stabbing when an individual attempted to bring a flag, and in another occurrence, children aged three to four engaged in spitting during the procession. However, everything is currently under control."
Minister for Agriculture, N. Cheluvarayaswamy, who oversees the Mandya district, remarked at the Vidhana Soudha, "Following the filing of the FIR, 21 individuals, identified as Muslims, have been arrested. A few of the suspects are outsiders, but their identities remain unverified. No cases have been registered against Hindus, nor have any Hindus been detained."
Minister for Labour, Santosh Lad, added: "In situations like these, any government will take necessary action. The BJP's actions seem politically motivated, and it's apparent why they have highlighted this issue. We will refrain from further comments. Let the government fulfill its responsibilities. Legal proceedings will commence against the offenders."
When questioned about the BJP's assertions regarding an increase in attacks during the Ganesh Visarjan procession, Minister Lad responded: "Are you suggesting that the government is inciting these events? Such incidents happen irrespective of which party is governing. Appropriate actions will be taken. BJP leaders are accountable if there is unrest among Hindus."
"In the 70 years of Congress governance, such occurrences were rare. The BJP currently governs in most states, so they must answer if Hindu culture is facing threats during their administration," he concluded.
"I urge Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to prioritize the broader interests of the populace rather than a communal agenda when addressing incidents of communal unrest," he added.
