Mumbai, Jan 15 (NationPress) As the voting for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra unfolds today, the opposition has leveled accusations against the ruling alliance for employing money power and has criticized the State Election Commission (SEC) for its mismanagement of voter lists.

Ambadas Danve, a leader of Shiv Sena (UBT) and former Leader of Opposition in the state council, asserted that the BJP is intoxicated by their wealth.

After casting his vote in Sambhajinagar, Danve remarked, "I received calls as late as 4:00 a.m. regarding how the BJP has flooded this city with money. Their arrogance stems from their wealth. BJP leaders boast about development; if that is indeed the case, why resort to cash? They should seek votes based on their accomplishments, which has not been the case."

He expressed his belief that the electorate is wise enough to "show the BJP their place."

With voting currently taking place in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the updated lists indicate that 1,118,263 voters are eligible to participate. However, shortly before polling commenced, chaos erupted in various locations due to allegations of cash distribution, as claimed by Danve.

Danve further alleged that the administration is being pressured by the ruling party and described the SEC as "sleeping like Kumbhakarna." He urged voters to recognize this perceived bias and emphasized that if justice is not equally administered due to administrative pressure, citizens must support the right candidates.

He highlighted the urgent need for a change in leadership, referencing the tragic fact that 1,150 farmers committed suicide in 2025. Danve warned voters against "false and delusional propaganda" and a "fake balloon of development."

NCP Legislator Rohit Pawar criticized the SEC for the discrepancies in the voter lists, following considerable confusion reported at polling stations in Pimpri-Chinchwad and other areas of Maharashtra.

Pawar cited the example of BJP minister Ganesh Naik, who struggled for over an hour to locate his name and that of his family members in Navi Mumbai.

He alleged that ward boundaries and voter lists were altered to benefit the ruling party, even insinuating that voters were reassigned based on their surnames and appearances. He noted that even a sitting Cabinet Minister like Ganesh Naik fell prey to the BJP's tactics.

He demanded accountability from the State Election Commission for the widespread confusion.

Meanwhile, SEC officials have called on citizens to actively participate in the voting process as the day advances.

Point of View

It is crucial to acknowledge the concerns raised by the opposition regarding the electoral process in Maharashtra. Such allegations, if substantiated, can significantly undermine public trust in democratic institutions. As an observer, one must emphasize the importance of a transparent and fair electoral process, ensuring that all voices are heard, and that every vote counts.
