Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Aug 12 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Cabinet has officially sanctioned the recruitment of 15,000 personnel for the state police force, as confirmed by officials.
In alignment with this, the Cabinet has approved the recruitment process for police constables for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Notably, candidates who exceeded the age limit for the respective positions in 2022 and 2023 can apply as a special exception and take part in the recruitment process, according to the government announcement.
This recruitment will take place after assessing the vacant positions within the state police force throughout 2024 and those anticipated to become vacant in 2025.
The recruitment initiative for police constables is managed at the district level, where an optical mark recognition-based written examination will be conducted.
The Cabinet has also empowered the Additional Director General of Police, responsible for Training and Special Teams, to oversee the recruitment process, review applications, conduct physical examinations, and manage the written exams for qualified candidates.
The positions within the constable cadre are crucial for upholding law and order across the state.
"An increase in vacant posts amplifies the workload on police forces. To enhance the conditions within police departments and prisons, directions have been issued by both the High Court and the Supreme Court to ensure timely filling of these vacancies. Elected representatives, both within and outside the State Legislature, have urged immediate action to fill these posts," the government statement elaborated.
During the Monsoon session, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the State Legislature that a major recruitment initiative for the police department is underway.
This effort is part of a comprehensive 150-day program designed to restructure the department, revise rules, facilitate compassionate appointments, and identify existing vacancies, as stated by the Chief Minister.
He further revealed that the state government has already recruited 38,802 police personnel from 2022 to 2025.
A proposal to recruit an additional 13,560 police positions has also been submitted.
