Mumbai, May 20 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared that Maharashtra is the premier startup hub of India, showcasing its dominance in both investments and the number of startups.
The state has established a Rs 120 crore 'Fund of Funds' to foster a robust ecosystem for startups, offering financial support to promising business ventures.
This announcement was made at the Startup Conclave 2025, co-hosted by CSIR and several leading scientific institutions.
According to the Chief Minister, Maharashtra's extensive coastline presents vast opportunities for the marine economy, paving the way for thousands of startups and new business avenues.
Innovative solutions are essential for challenges ranging from coastal cleanliness to ensuring sustainability in the marine economy, creating a significant opportunity for startups.
Currently, there is a strong focus on innovations such as marine robotics, which play a crucial role.
“Various organizations are actively exploring new methods for managing solid and liquid waste. The majority of pollution affecting our seas and rivers is not industrial, but arises from other waste types. By utilizing sustainable technology for waste processing, we can maintain the purity of our water resources. Therefore, there is an acute demand for innovative technologies and startups in this sector,” stated the Chief Minister.
He emphasized that India's startup ecosystem is among the fastest-growing globally. Following China, India now has the second-highest number of startups, and he believes that India is poised to become the world's leading startup powerhouse.
“Efforts are currently underway to develop the nation’s most advanced 'Innovation City' on 300 acres in Navi Mumbai. This facility will nurture startups in science, technology, biotechnology, data science, and advanced manufacturing. Additionally, an 'Edu-City' housing 12 world-class university campuses will be established to accommodate one lakh students,” he shared.
Highlighting the importance of the circular economy, the Chief Minister noted the surge of startups in the agricultural sector.
He is committed to positioning Maharashtra as a frontrunner in the startup revolution across the nation.
Through collaborative efforts between the Central and state governments, he believes India will take the lead in education and innovation.
