"The devastating incident on National Highway-61 near Kalyan, which led to the untimely deaths of 11 individuals, is an immense tragedy. I extend my sincere condolences to their families during this difficult time. We are actively coordinating with local authorities," stated the Chief Minister in his message of condolence.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also conveyed his heartbreak over the tragic collision involving a car and a truck near the bridge at Rayate in Kalyan taluka on the Kalyan-Ahilyanagar National Highway.

"This accident has claimed the lives of 11 passengers in the car. We have commenced an inquiry into this incident, and a comprehensive investigation is underway. I pray that the souls of those who perished find peace. My heartfelt sympathies go out to their families. In this challenging time, I share in their sorrow and hope they find the strength to cope with their loss," he remarked.

Earlier that morning, a catastrophic event on the Kalyan-Murbad-Ahilyanagar highway resulted in the death of 11 individuals.

The incident occurred at the Rayte Bridge when a cement mixer truck collided head-on with a "Kali-Peeli" (black and yellow) Maruti Suzuki Eeco taxi with catastrophic results.

All 11 individuals in the taxi lost their lives in this tragic accident.

Among those deceased, seven hailed from Murbad, one was from Kalyan, and another from Satara; the identities of the remaining two victims are still being verified.

According to law enforcement, the taxi was traveling from Kalyan to Murbad.

Due to ongoing construction work, traffic from both directions had been rerouted to a single lane of the Rayte Bridge.

Witness statements indicated that the accident occurred when the taxi driver attempted to overtake another vehicle. During this maneuver, the driver seemingly lost control and crashed into an oncoming cement mixer truck. The impact was so intense that the taxi was entirely crushed, leaving no possibility for survival.

Local residents and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene. The victims were extracted from the wreckage and transported to the nearby Goveli Hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

This incident has ignited public outrage and raised numerous crucial issues, including administrative negligence, safety violations, and inadequate infrastructure.

Community members are questioning the decision to allow only one side of the bridge to remain open for two-way traffic.

Investigations are also focusing on why the taxi was carrying more passengers than its legal capacity.

Residents have called for the immediate opening of both sides of the road to avert further tragedies.

Murbad MLA Kisan Kathore expressed deep sorrow over the incident, noting that despite the road's ample width, the tragedy was a direct result of reckless driving and negligence during an overtaking attempt.

He confirmed that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been informed and that measures are being taken to assist the families of the victims.
