The police have sent the deceased bodies for post-mortem examinations, and the injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility.
Following the accident report, a team from the Titwala Police Station swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue and relief efforts.
It has been noted that there were 12 passengers in the car at the time of the accident. Eight individuals died at the scene, while one succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Local residents rushed to assist the victims.
Subsequently, two more individuals died from injuries at the hospital.
The vehicle was heading towards Murbad when the accident occurred near Rayta Bridge, close to Kalyan, according to police reports.
Earlier, Thane Superintendent of Police D.S. Swami confirmed that nine fatalities had occurred.
Titwala Deputy SP Anil Laad informed reporters, "We are currently in the process of identifying the deceased while the injured are being treated at a hospital. A case has been filed, and we will scrutinize the involvement of relevant government departments in this incident."
The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Initial findings suggest that excessive speed or a loss of vehicle control may have contributed to the tragic incident.
