Mumbai, June 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has initiated an investigation into the local train mishap in Mumbai that resulted in the loss of at least four lives, with nine others sustaining injuries after they fell onto the railway tracks.
In addition, he has declared a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased individuals.
The injured will receive financial aid ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh.
According to state government sources, the costs for the medical treatment of the injured will be covered by the government.
State Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan confirmed that a detailed investigation is currently in progress to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
He noted that two individuals with severe injuries have been transported to Jupiter hospital in Thane.
Meanwhile, Raj Thackeray, the Chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, has reignited the call for a separate corporation dedicated to Mumbai railways, citing the lack of attention from successive governments.
"The railway accident in Mumbai today is tragic. Numerous passengers lost their lives in this incident, and such events occur frequently in the city. Every day, commuters face injuries, yet there seems to be little concern. Urban planning is a complete mess. Numerous people are flocking in. Major infrastructure projects are underway, but there's no consideration for adequate parking. Every city grapples with serious traffic issues. Simply constructing new roads and metros is ineffective, yet no government addresses urban planning or the influx from outside," he stated.
He further remarked, "Our focus remains solely on elections and political campaigns. Are Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray contemplating an alliance? More pressing are the questions regarding the daily commute in Mumbai, the living conditions in cities, and the broader state issues. Will the media pursue these inquiries? Will they hold the government accountable? Discussions about alliances are trivial compared to these pressing concerns."
"Are we ready to address the problems faced by the populace?" he questioned.
"I have been a frequent traveler on Mumbai's railways. In the past, conditions were somewhat better. Now, the crowds at railway stations are alarming. Our elected officials often travel abroad — do they learn anything? How would such an incident be handled in other countries? Here, unfortunately, human life appears to have little value," he commented.
Aaditya Thackeray, leader of Shiv Sena-UBT, expressed his sorrow, stating, "While standing at the door of a local train bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus between Diva and Mumbra stations, several passengers tragically lost their lives after being struck by an express train from the opposite direction; this incident is profoundly heartbreaking. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those who perished."
