Mumbai, June 9 (NationPress) Tragically, one individual lost their life while nine others sustained injuries after they fell from a moving local train near the Mumbra railway station, which is situated close to Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) verified that among the ten passengers traveling from Kasara to CSMT, one has unfortunately died.

In a statement, the TMC-operated hospital disclosed, "One individual has succumbed to injuries from this incident, while nine others have been admitted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa for medical attention."

The hospital further added, "Local leader Sanjay Vaghule, Disaster Management Officer Yasin Tadvi, Medical Superintendent Dr. Malgaonkar, and the Police Inspector from Kalwa Police Station are present, and the medical team is treating the injured with urgency."

An eyewitness recounted, "Due to the overwhelming crowd in the local train, some passengers were clinging to the doors. Simultaneously, the Pushpak Express traveling to Lucknow was passing alongside the local train. Passengers hanging at the door fell after being struck by the express train."

Upon witnessing the incident, fellow passengers alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Subsequently, the injured individuals were transported to a hospital in Kalwa.

A resident of Diwa mentioned, "We learned about the accident after videos circulated on social media. The footage showed passengers falling from the local train. They were extracted from the tracks and brought to the platform, suffering significant injuries and with their clothing torn."

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed his sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the urgent need to reevaluate the safety measures for passengers utilizing the Mumbai suburban trains. He expressed hope that the railway administration would act promptly to address these concerns.

Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske demanded an investigation into the cause of the accident, suggesting that crowd dynamics may have played a role. "Could someone have pushed the passengers? It is vital to uncover the truth behind this incident," he stated.

Former Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Rajan Vichare criticized the current local train supply on the Mumbai to Kalyan route, claiming it is insufficient and forces people to jeopardize their safety. He urged for an increase in train frequency.

NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule expressed her condolences and called on the railway administration to implement effective crowd management to prevent future tragedies.

Vidya Chavan, a leader from NCP (SP), criticized the railway administration for not providing ambulances at the station during the incident and highlighted the poor condition of Mumbai's local trains. She noted, "Passengers are still deprived of adequate facilities. The overcrowding of local trains leads to dangerous situations for commuters. As delays occur, the crowd only intensifies, compelling many to risk their lives to board the trains."

Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera remarked, "This heartbreaking accident serves as a stark reminder of the Maharashtra government's blatant disregard for the chronic overcrowding and safety issues on the Mumbai Suburban Rail network."

Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya lamented the unfortunate Mumbra Kalwa incident, stating, "We failed to enhance our transport system at the pace required to accommodate the growing population in the Thane to Dombivli region." He urged passengers to maintain discipline while traveling.

Vijay Wadettiwar, leader of the Maharashtra Congress Legislature Party, condemned the Mahayuti government, blaming it for the daily struggles faced by Mumbaikars. He demanded accountability from the railway minister, stating, "The horrific accident today involving Mumbai's local trains, which are vital for city dwellers, is devastating. Millions of passengers face perilous conditions daily, risking their lives while commuting. Effective crowd management is essential, especially during peak hours, yet the railway minister seems more focused on social media distractions than addressing these critical issues."
