Mumbai, June 10 (NationPress) A day after four individuals tragically lost their lives after falling from a train on the railway track near Mumbra, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the Central government is considering the operation of more AC trains without raising fares.
Additionally, the state administration will strive to adjust office timings in Mumbai.
These remarks from the Chief Minister hold significant weight as opposition parties and rail passenger groups have criticized the government regarding the June 9 incident, claiming that both the Centre and the state have shown insensitivity and inactivity in providing relief to daily railway commuters amidst fewer trips and escalating crowds in local trains.
CM Fadnavis remarked to reporters: “We must learn from yesterday’s incident. The Central government has a master plan to introduce AC trains without increasing the fares.”
He further described the Monday incident as a serious matter.
“Due to the limited growth of the metro, the crowding in local trains is substantial. The government acknowledges that if doors are installed in local trains, appropriate ventilation must be ensured. Hence, the Central government is contemplating the introduction of AC trains without fare hikes,” he reiterated.
Of the 13 individuals who fell from the moving train onto the tracks, four lost their lives, and nine are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals. The government has already ordered an investigation and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased and free medical treatment for the injured.
A case of accidental death has been registered at the Thane Railway Police Station in connection with the Mumbra train accident. The police are probing the cause of the incident and will soon gather statements from eyewitnesses. Additionally, the distance between the two railway tracks will be measured.
