Mumbai, June 9 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has initiated a thorough investigation into a local train accident in Mumbai that resulted in the loss of at least four lives and injuries to nine others after they fell onto the railway tracks.
The Chief Minister has declared a compensation package of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased.
Additionally, the injured will receive compensation ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh.
Sources from the state government have confirmed that the injured will receive free medical treatment, with the costs covered by the government.
Girish Mahajan, the State Disaster Management Minister, has validated that a comprehensive probe is currently in progress to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident.
According to reports, two passengers with severe injuries have been transported to Jupiter Hospital in Thane.
In the meantime, Raj Thackeray, the Chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, has revived the long-standing demand for a distinct corporation dedicated to Mumbai railways, asserting that previous governments have overlooked this necessity.
“The railway accident that occurred today in Mumbai is a tragedy. Many lives were lost, yet such incidents are becoming commonplace. Daily, passengers are harmed, and no one appears to care. Urban planning is in chaos, as massive crowds converge without adequate infrastructure. New roads, bridges, and metros are being constructed, but there's no foresight for parking solutions,” he remarked.
He emphasized that the focus is squarely on elections and political maneuvering while the pressing issues of urban travel and living conditions are sidelined. “Will the media confront these realities and demand accountability from the government?” he questioned.
“Having traveled on Mumbai's railways for years, I can attest that conditions have deteriorated. The scene at railway stations today is alarming. Do our leaders learn from international standards? If such an incident occurred abroad, the response would be vastly different. Here, human life seems undervalued,” he criticized.
Aaditya Thackeray, leader of Shiv Sena-UBT, expressed his sorrow, stating, “Passengers standing at the door of a local train between Diva and Mumbra were tragically struck by an express train from the opposite direction. This heartbreaking incident warrants our deepest condolences to the victims' families.”
