Mumbai, June 10 (NationPress) Following the tragic incident where four individuals lost their lives after falling from a moving train near Mumbra, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the Central government is contemplating the operation of additional AC trains without raising fares.
Moreover, the state administration will strive to implement changes in office hours in Mumbai.
The Chief Minister's statements on Tuesday are particularly significant as opposition parties and rail passenger groups have criticized the government for the June 9 tragedy, claiming that both the Centre and the state have shown a lack of sensitivity and action to address the needs of daily commuters amid increasing crowds and reduced train services.
CM Fadnavis remarked to the press: “We must learn from yesterday’s event. The Central government has a comprehensive plan to introduce AC trains while keeping fares unchanged.”
He further described the event on Monday as serious.
“Due to the limited expansion of the metro, the local trains are overcrowded. The government recognizes that adding doors to local trains would necessitate proper ventilation. Thus, the Central government is actively considering the provision of AC trains at no additional cost,” he emphasized.
Out of the 13 individuals who fell from the train, four have tragically died, while nine others are receiving treatment in various hospitals. The government has initiated an investigation and announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased, along with free medical care for the injured.
An accidental death case has been filed at the Thane Railway Police Station in connection with the Mumbra train accident. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and will soon gather statements from witnesses. They will also measure the gap between the railway tracks.
