Mumbai, Aug 18 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation, Makarand Jadhav-Patil, has urged the District Collectors across the state to perform an urgent Panchanama (assessment) of the destruction to crops, orchards, and other properties due to the recent heavy rains and floods, and to prioritize the submission of these reports.
This directive comes in light of the intensified rainfall in the state, with forecasts from the Meteorological Department indicating more significant downpours in the coming days.
The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall across the Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Konkan regions for the next four days. Minister Jadhav-Patil emphasized the need for the administration to remain vigilant in order to provide swift relief to the affected communities.
Furthermore, he reiterated the government's unwavering support for the farmers and residents impacted by the severe rains and floods in various regions. He instructed the administration to prioritize immediate assistance for those affected.
Jadhav-Patil mandated that the district collectors send the Panchanama damage reports to the government via the respective divisional commissioners.
In addition, he stated that measures have already been taken to empower district collectors to release necessary funds for families affected by natural disasters, including those who suffer fatalities or injuries.
“In cases where homes are destroyed or significantly damaged due to heavy rains, prompt Panchanama assessments should be conducted and aid provided. This also applies to stallholders and small businesses facing losses; immediate assessments should be carried out, and support extended to these individuals. To facilitate this assistance, the government has delegated financial aid authority to the district collectors,” the minister noted.
He further instructed the administration to act swiftly to deliver immediate relief to those whose homes, livestock, and lives have been impacted by the ongoing heavy rains and floods over the past several days.
