Mumbai, March 8 (NationPress) The Maharashtra government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhance the transport infrastructure by finalizing the metro railway and sea links.
According to the Economic Survey for 2024-25, an average of 5.60 lakh passengers utilized the 11.40 km Metro Line 1 (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) each day.
On Metro Line 2A (Dahisar-D.N. Nagar) (18.6 km) and Metro Line 7 (Andheri (E)-Dahisar (E)) (16.5 km), the average daily passenger count was around 1.52 lakh.
Metro Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ) (12.69 km) - Phase I from Aarey to BKC was opened for traffic in October 2024, with an average of 21,693 passengers daily during 2024-25. The second phase is nearing completion following successful trial runs.
Regarding the Pune Metro Rail Project, the operational sections from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Swargate of Corridor I and Vanaz to Ramwadi of Corridor II (33.28 km length) averaged 1.20 lakh daily passengers this fiscal.
In the 40.02 km Nagpur Metro Rail Project, around 90,000 passengers traveled each day, while approximately 13,613 passengers used the 11.10 km Navi Mumbai Metro (CBD Belapur to Pendhar).
Furthermore, the southbound traffic lane from Bandra Worli Sea Link to Princess Street flyover and the northbound lane from Marine Drive to Bandra Worli Sea Link, part of the Mumbai Coastal Road project (South), was opened in January. The construction of the Bandra-Versova sea link is ongoing.
The government is actively promoting Electric Vehicles in the state. As of December 2024, the number of battery EVs registered reached 6,44,779, up from 3,39,337 in December 2023. The total vehicle count on January 1 this year was 488 lakh (149 vehicles per km), compared to 458 lakh (141 vehicles per km) on January 1 last year.
