Hyderabad, Jan 30 (NationPress) It’s now confirmed! Celebrated filmmaker S S Rajamouli has officially announced that the highly anticipated pan-Indian epic, 'Varanasi', starring Mahesh Babu in the lead role, will premiere globally on April 7, 2024.
Speculation about the film's release date began circulating on Thursday, but it was not until Friday that the confirmation was made public.
Rajamouli shared the release date poster on his X account, stating, "April 7th, 2024… #VARANASI." Mahesh Babu echoed this announcement on his own timeline.
The film, initially dubbed 'GlobeTrotter', had its title revealed at a remarkable event at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad last year, attended by thousands of enthusiastic fans.
This title reveal was celebrated as a historic spectacle, drawing one of the largest live audiences ever witnessed in the Indian cinema landscape.
The event showcased an immense stage, reaching a height of 100 ft and featuring a 130 ft wide screen for presentations.
The production team has unveiled the character designs of Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj, and Priyanka Chopra. In the film, Prithviraj portrays the antagonist Kumbha, while Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini. Mahesh Babu's character is named Rudhra.
During the event, Rajamouli also discussed a significant sequence he filmed for 'Varanasi', which he described as one of the most unforgettable scenes in his entire filmography.
“Since my childhood, I have expressed my admiration for the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Creating Mahabharata has always been my dream project. While working on this film, I didn’t anticipate that I would end up filming a crucial sequence from the Ramayana. Every scene I wrote felt euphoric. The first day I saw Mahesh dressed as Rama for a photoshoot gave me goosebumps,” Rajamouli remarked.
“We had a fantastic time shooting this episode, which took us 60 days to complete. Each day presented new challenges, as every sub-episode was like a mini-movie requiring detailed planning. We managed to overcome those hurdles and finish the sequence, which will undoubtedly stand out as one of my most memorable scenes,” the director added.
