Amit Malviya Accuses Bengal Official of Poll Rule Breach
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 9 (NationPress) Amit Malviya, the Chief of the BJP IT Cell and the party's national observer for West Bengal, has raised concerns regarding a supposed breach of Election Commission protocols by a government official in West Bengal. In a post shared on X, Malviya accused the state administration of attempting to distort the electoral process. To substantiate his claims, he posted a screenshot from a WhatsApp group chat.
“In a troubling breach of the Election Commission’s regulations, it has come to light that the SDO of Bidhannagar has allegedly suggested in a WhatsApp group that individuals with deleted votes should promptly submit Form 6, asserting that this is simpler than filing an appeal. This is extremely concerning,” Malviya stated.
He further contended that the official was seeking to circumvent established procedures while hiding critical information.
“By promoting Form 6 over the mandated appeal process, this officer is effectively sidestepping due procedures and obscuring the reality that these individuals were once registered voters whose names were removed for not providing necessary documentation or proving their eligibility. Such actions represent an attempt to manipulate the electoral framework,” he remarked.
The BJP leader called on the Election Commission to address the issue and take appropriate action.
“The Election Commission of India (@ECISVEEP) and the CEO West Bengal (@CEOWestBengal) must urgently recognize this situation and take action against this wayward SDO, who seems to act more like a political operative than an impartial administrator. Notably, certain areas of Bidhannagar have a considerable population of illegal infiltrators, which makes strict adherence to electoral verification procedures even more crucial,” he emphasized.
He insisted that the integrity of the voter registration lists must not be compromised.
On the previous day, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, also criticized the Mamata Banerjee administration, alleging breaches of norms after a district administration assigned the management of postal ballots to the West Bengal Police Welfare Organisation.
Adhikari stated via his X account that such an action undermines the very essence of democracy and called on the Election Commission to take notice of the issue.
