“On this significant day of International Mother Language Day, I express my profound respect for all languages and the communities that speak them. I honor the memory of every language martyr and advocate across the globe,” Banerjee stated.
She also acknowledged the contributions of prominent literary figures from Bengal, whose efforts have greatly enhanced the Bengali language. These illustrious personalities include Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Sukanta Bhattacharya, and Jibanananda Das, whose influences have left a lasting cultural and literary legacy.
The Chief Minister highlighted her government’s initiatives aimed at fostering linguistic inclusivity throughout West Bengal by recognizing numerous languages and supporting institutional initiatives.
“We honor not only the Bengali language of Rabindranath, Nazrul, Sukanta, and Jibanananda, but all languages. I take pride in the fact that we have officially acknowledged Hindi, Santali, Kurukh, Kurmali, Nepali, Urdu, Rajbangshi, Kamtapuri, Punjabi, and Telugu as official languages,” she asserted.
Banerjee noted that measures have been implemented to bolster smaller languages and ensure educational access in mother tongues.

Institutions such as the Hindi Academy, Rajbangshi Language Academy, Kamtapuri Language Academy, and Santali Academy have been established. We are committed to ensuring that every language speaker in the state has the opportunity to learn in their mother tongue,” she added.
She urged for collective vigilance in safeguarding linguistic identity.
“On this momentous day of Ekushey, I reaffirm my pledge that if any language faces aggression, we shall unite against it. All languages deserve equal respect,” she concluded.
