Kolkata, Sep 20 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated several Durga Puja pandals on Saturday, using this festive occasion to convey a message of unity amidst diversity.
During the inauguration of a Durga Puja mandap in Kolkata, Chief Minister Banerjee once again brought attention to the alleged mistreatment of Bengali-speaking migrant workers across the nation.
"In Bengal, various communities come together to celebrate Durga Puja. This festival epitomizes the unique spirit of Bengal. Whether someone calls their mother 'Maa' or 'Amma', the love, respect, and connections stay unchanged," the Chief Minister stated after inaugurating the mandap at Sreebhumi Durga Puja.
"I hold my mother tongue in high regard, and I equally respect the mother tongues of others. It is essential for them to honor Bengali as well. Bengali-speaking migrant workers deserve to be treated with dignity and should not face harassment. We must unite against any conspiracies aimed at dividing us; otherwise, the nation risks fragmentation. It is crucial to remember that Bengal is a part of India, and we must uphold respect for Bengal, its culture, music, and artistic expressions," she emphasized.
The Chief Minister also encouraged everyone to remain cautious due to the unpredictable weather and advised against getting drenched in the rain.
"We need to be vigilant. Conditions are being monitored closely. Heavy rainfall in Jharkhand or Bihar can impact our state. Likewise, significant rainfall in neighboring regions often leads to flooding here due to overflowing reservoirs. Given Bengal's geographical challenges, we face such risks. Let's hope for a rain-free Durga Puja as millions look forward to the celebrations," she expressed.
She revealed that she plans to inaugurate 3,000 Durga Pujas, most of which will be done virtually, leading up to the five-day festival.
Additionally, she announced the release of 17 songs she has penned, which will debut on Mahalaya (Sunday), marking the start of Devi Paksha.
On Saturday afternoon, she also inaugurated the Hatibagan Durga Puja and Tala Prottoy Puja.
"I am not unveiling the deities; that is reserved for Mahalaya, which signifies the onset of Devi Paksha. My role is to inaugurate the pandals, showcasing beautiful interiors that reflect the heritage and artistry of Bengal," she concluded.
