Manipur Chief Minister Criticizes Rahul Gandhi for Alleged Misconduct with Nagaland MP

Imphal, Dec 20 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, expressed his disapproval on Thursday regarding the actions of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, who is accused of 'misbehaving' with Rajya Sabha member Phangnon Konyak from Nagaland while on the premises of Parliament.
In a statement made on X, he stated: I condemn the unacceptable and disgraceful conduct of Congress leader Mr. Rahul Gandhi, who assaulted Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland, Ms. S Phangnon, in Parliament.
This behaviour is an insult to the sanctity of Parliament as an institution. I stand in solidarity with Ms. S Phangnon Konyak and urge the authorities to ensure that justice is served promptly. We must strive to uphold the values of respect, equality, and decency within our institutions,” Biren Singh remarked.
Earlier on Thursday, Konyak, who serves as the BJP's representative in the Upper House from Nagaland and is also the state President of BJP Mahila Morcha in Nagaland, accused Rahul Gandhi of making her feel uneasy while protesting outside Parliament.
Konyak lodged a complaint with the Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, on the same day, claiming that her dignity and self-worth had been significantly undermined due to the behaviour and conduct of Rahul Gandhi.
She stated: He misbehaved with me in a loud voice and his physical proximity to me was so close that I, being a lady member, felt extremely uncomfortable.
I stepped aside with a heavy heart and felt that no Member of Parliament should behave this way, she added.
The conflict between the Congress-led Opposition and the ruling BJP-led NDA regarding the alleged 'insult' to B.R. Ambedkar escalated on Parliament grounds, resulting in claims of pushing and shoving among MPs, which left two BJP parliamentarians hospitalized, with the woman BJP MP accusing Rahul Gandhi of 'misbehaving' with Konyak.
The BJP has charged the LoP in Lok Sabha with pushing MPs, resulting in injuries to two of its members.
However, Rahul Gandhi refuted these claims, stating that it was he who was pushed by a member of the ruling party, while Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also accused protesting BJP members of shoving him and causing injury to his knees.
Both parties have filed complaints with the police.
