Chennai, Nov 4 (NationPress) In a significant political transformation in Tamil Nadu, Alangulam MLA Manoj Pandian, a dedicated follower of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, has officially aligned himself with the ruling DMK, accompanied by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

Shortly after his switch to the DMK at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai, Pandian disclosed his intention to resign from his position as MLA later today.

Manoj Pandian, offspring of former Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker B.H. Pandian, was among the initial supporters of O. Panneerselvam during his stand against V.K. Sasikala in 2017.

Despite his expulsion from the AIADMK, Pandian remained steadfastly loyal to Panneerselvam, supporting him through numerous political struggles.

Addressing the press after joining the DMK, Pandian articulated that his choice stemmed from a thorough contemplation of Tamil Nadu’s prevailing political landscape and his core values.

“I have made this pivotal decision after weighing the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin -- a leader committed to Dravidian ideology, who stands resilient against adversities and champions progress without compromise. I believe he represents the essence of social justice and inclusive governance,” he remarked.

In discussing his resignation from the Assembly, Pandian conveyed, “I will be resigning from my MLA post this evening. This decision is not for my family or personal advantage -- it is motivated by principles and ideology. I have joined a movement that advocates for progressive values and the welfare of the people.”

Pandian also subtly criticized his former party, the AIADMK, describing it as undergoing “a rather unfortunate phase”.

“The AIADMK is no longer autonomous; it has succumbed to another organization and adheres to external commands. This is not the legacy envisioned by M.G.R. or Jayalalithaa,” he stated.

Expressing his appreciation to Chief Minister Stalin, Pandian noted that the DMK leader had embraced him “with a warm smile and an open heart”.

His induction signifies a notable blow to the O. Panneerselvam faction, which has been progressively losing influence since its removal from the AIADMK in 2023. Pandian’s transition is anticipated to further solidify the DMK’s foothold in southern Tamil Nadu as the 2026 Assembly elections approach.

Point of View

Manoj Pandian's transition to the DMK highlights a critical moment in Tamil Nadu politics. As the landscape evolves, this shift reflects broader trends of party realignment and ideological commitment, emphasizing the need for leaders to prioritize principles over loyalty in a rapidly changing political environment.
