Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Raipur, Feb 4 (NationPress) In a remarkable achievement against Maoist activities, a collaborative force comprising the Narayanpur Police and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) successfully unearthed a stash of materials utilized by Naxalites for constructing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during an operation in the thick woodlands of Narayanpur district in Chhattisgarh on Monday (February 2).
The items retrieved were meticulously cataloged in an official seizure document and subsequently transported to Orchha police station for further analysis and processing of evidence.
A legal case has been initiated against the implicated Naxal suspects.
This recovery, which stemmed from reliable intelligence, focused on concealed storage sites within the Kangali-Mandoli-Asnar-Orchha forest region, situated under the jurisdiction of Orchha police station, part of the infamous Abujhmad area that has long been a Maoist bastion, as stated by police officials on Wednesday.
Upon receiving actionable intelligence on February 2, the combined unit executed an extensive combing operation in the forested region. Throughout this mission, security forces uncovered numerous items hidden by Maoists, including pressure cookers, ropes, electrical wires, chargers, batteries, pencil cells, pipes, engine oil, and other common household items repurposed for the assembly of IEDs.
These materials are routinely used by Maoists to target security personnel with pressure-activated or command-detonated explosives.
Recent collaborative efforts in Abujhmad have consistently disrupted Maoist supply lines, with similar discoveries of explosives, detonators, and pressure cooker-based IEDs in the area, often detonated on-site by bomb disposal teams to prevent potential assaults.
Narayanpur, located within the Bastar division, remains a central hub for anti-Naxal operations owing to its rugged landscape and ongoing Maoist presence.
Earlier in January, a joint contingent of security forces discovered and neutralized a substantial Maoist explosives cache concealed in the forested elevations near Kursingbahar village, under the Barsur police station in Dantewada district.
According to high-ranking police officials, the confiscated cache comprised a 174-kilogram barrel-type Improvised Explosive Device, one Barrel Grenade Launcher, five bundles of cordex wire, each measuring six meters, six electric detonators, eight gelatin sticks, a bundle of electric wire, a bundle of safety fuse, alongside medications, daily necessities, and Maoist literature.
The explosives, estimated to be worth approximately 11 lakh rupees, were strategically hidden to facilitate ambushes or sabotage.
