Raipur/Bijapur, Dec 29 (NationPress) In a significant blow to Maoist endeavors in the Bastar region, a collaborative unit that included the District Reserve Guard from Bijapur, members of the Gangaloor Police Station, and the Bomb Disposal Squad managed to identify and neutralise a potent 10-kilogram improvised explosive device laid by Maoists during a search operation in the Munga-Peddakorma area on Monday.

This operation commenced early in the morning as part of ongoing anti-Naxal efforts aimed at securing vulnerable routes and villages nestled within the dense forests of Bijapur district, recognized as one of the most severely impacted areas in the state's prolonged conflict against Left-Wing Extremism.

While executing standard demining and area sanitization along a footpath adjacent to the Munga road, the vigilant team detected the pressure-activated IED, which had been strategically buried to target security patrols or civilian vehicles passing through. Adhering to established safety protocols, the Bomb Disposal Squad from Bijapur swiftly diffused and neutralised the explosive on-site, averting what could have been a catastrophic attack with potentially grave casualties.

The 10-kilogram device was capable of inflicting extensive damage and highlighted the ongoing threat posed by Maoists, who persist in utilizing such tactics to disrupt progress and instill fear in local communities.

Officials praised the vigilance, quick response, and coordinated efforts of the joint team, noting that the timely detection thwarted the insurgents' malicious intent to undermine peace-building initiatives in the area. Such IEDs are frequently concealed along critical paths used by security forces during road construction or community outreach efforts aimed at fostering goodwill.

This operation signifies the increasing momentum in anti-Maoist campaigns across Chhattisgarh, with numerous recoveries of explosives and caches reported in recent weeks. Enhanced operational camps and intensified patrolling have allowed forces to gain control over areas once dominated by insurgents, facilitating infrastructure development and encouraging tribal communities to reject violence.

Ongoing search operations and area control exercises are being conducted in the Munga-Peddakorma vicinity to uncover any additional traps or hideouts.
