Raipur, Oct 9 (NationPress) In a major achievement in the ongoing anti-LWE operations, security forces have successfully neutralized a formidable improvised explosive device (IED) that was planted by Maoists in the dense forests of village Iknar, which falls under the Dhanora police station in Narayanpur district.
The operation was spearheaded by Robinson Guria, Superintendent of Police (SP) for Narayanpur, alongside IPS Akshay Sabdra, Additional SP, and Ajay Kumar, Additional SP.
Following credible intelligence, a collaborative team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) initiated a de-mining and search operation early Thursday.
During this operation, the team discovered a 5-kg Cooker Command IED, a type of device frequently utilized by Maoists to target security patrols.
The BDS team, following rigorous safety protocols, successfully defused the explosive on-site, preventing a potential disaster.
“This recovery serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing danger posed by Maoists, who continue to jeopardize lives through their reckless deployment of explosives,” remarked SP Robinson Guria.
“Our forces are resolute in their commitment to transforming Narayanpur into an LWE-free district.”
This operation highlights the increased momentum in anti-Maoist actions within the Bastar region, where over 33 IEDs have been defused this year.
It also follows a recent trend of surrenders by disillusioned Maoist members, with 16 individuals — nine of whom had a cumulative bounty of Rs 48 lakh — surrendering in Narayanpur due to feelings of exploitation and ideological discontent. Authorities are encouraging locals to report any suspicious activities, offering anonymity and a reward of Rs 5,000 for actionable information.
The DRG and BDS teams have received commendations for their accuracy and courage during this operation.
Officials stressed that these recoveries are critical in disrupting the logistical frameworks and tactical strategies of the Maoists.
With enhanced surveillance, community involvement, and coordinated patrols, the district administration is progressively reclaiming vulnerable areas, ensuring safer routes for civilians and instilling confidence in the local populace.
