Chaibasa, Jan 29 (NationPress) In a coordinated operation on Wednesday morning, police and security forces eliminated at least two Maoists, one of whom was a woman, in the Sonua police station area of West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand. This operation also resulted in the confiscation of weapons and other items linked to the Maoists.
Chaibasa Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar confirmed the incident, noting that a search operation is ongoing in the vicinity.
While the identities of the deceased Maoists remain unreleased, one individual is suspected to be Sanjay Ganjhu, a zonal commander for the CPI(Maoist) organization.
The SP had obtained intelligence reports suggesting that an armed Maoist squad had established a camp in the Sonua forest area and was plotting a significant attack. Acting on this intelligence, a well-coordinated team of district police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel encircled the area and initiated a search operation.
As security forces approached, the Maoists opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response. In the clash, two Maoists were killed, although some members of the group managed to flee into the thick forest.
This incident marks the second major encounter in Jharkhand in the last week. On January 22, a similar operation in the Tejnarayanpur police station area of Bokaro district led to the deaths of two Maoists, identified as Shanti and Manoj Baske.
Shanti, who resided in Dhavatand village under Khukhara police station in Giridih district, held the position of Area Commander for the CPI (Maoist). Her associate, Manoj, was from the Pirtand police station area of the same district.
The security forces are continuing their operations in the region to dismantle Maoist activities and ensure the safety of the local population.
